We’re excited for the start of Energy Express on June 21, 2021! Our staff and AmeriCorps Members are preparing for an amazing program, and we need your help. Since literacy is a cornerstone for future success, will you donate your time or resources to help kids thrive?
Volunteer for a Day or the Summer
Teen and Adult volunteers (or “mentors”) have a huge impact on kids! One of the best parts of Energy Express is the one-on-one attention participants get from people who care.
Here’s what you’ll do as a volunteer:
- Share stories with emerging readers
- Support kids as they practice their skills
- Help kids feel extra-special
Find out more about volunteering by watching the video on the Energy Express website.
For the safety of our kids, all House of the Carpenter volunteers must complete an application and background check.
In Kind Donations
Energy Express is designed to be a fun way for elementary students to learn over the summer. Therefore, we have a ton of craft activities planned! Arts and crafts allow kids to express themselves and integrate themes from books into their lives.
While crafts are key for emerging readers, they are also important for older kids as they continue to interact with their environment.
To that end, here is a list of “found objects” you might have around your house. Bring them to the House of the Carpenter so we can improve children’s literacy in our community!
- Foam egg cartons
- Paper towel tubes
- Old magazines or newspapers
- Empty cereal or shoe boxes
- Fabric scraps
- String, rope, thread, or yarn
- Clothespins
- Used file folders
- Clean containers (cottage cheese, yogurt, margarine)
Monetary Donations
Because of Covid-related restrictions, we have to have some extra supplies to make Energy Express as safe as possible. Your donations will help us comply with state guidelines and let kids be kids this summer!
Visit our PayPal page, and select either “Education” or “All Programs & Services.” We appreciate your support more than words can express!
