Holistic Care for the Wheeling Community
Ministries of Mercy, Transformation, Spiritual Formation
The House of the Carpenter is a Christ-centered charity affiliated with the West Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church. We value openness and integrity in our interactions with our neighbors, volunteers, staff, and community.
And we are committed to caring for the whole person:
- Body
- Mind
- Soul
Our overarching goal is both simple and complex:
We make sure that all of God’s children are welcomed into a community that is safe and filled with grace.
Our neighbors have faced an uphill battle to survive and thrive for decades. The Wheeling economy has struggled since the coal and steel industries began to decline in the 1970s. In response, we have developed various ministries that support and empower our community.
Serving the needs of today. Building hope for tomorrow.
Our ministries address both the immediate needs and the long-term goals of our neighbors. We talk about our services as belonging to three distinct categories, but ultimately each ministry contributes to the holistic care of our community.
Food, Clothing, & Utility
Mission of Mercy
We empower our community to survive by ensuring everyone has access to the things they need to live. These services help people secure appropriate food, clothing, and shelter for themselves and their families.
Children, Youth, & Adults
Mission of Transformation
We go beyond providing basic needs. These transformational programs give individuals and families hope as they develop skills to improve their quality of life.
Children, Youth, & Adults
Spiritual Formation
As a Christ-centered Wheeling charity, we are also tasked with helping people grow in their faith. These ministries enable us to care for a person’s soul.
