The applications are in. The interviews are complete. Our staff is prepared, and the students are ready… for career readiness! It’s the first week of the 2021 Pathways to Success program.
Our 10 program participants have an exciting week ahead of them!
“We’re starting out with the building blocks of job readiness. It’s important to spend our first week together getting to know each other, and giving the kids a feel for what to expect over the next 4 weeks.”
Mia Williams, Program Director
- Team building and communication skills practice
- A tour of West Liberty University
- Presentations on mental health from the Family Resource Network
- A deep dive into trade school possibilities
While some of these activities will be on site here at the House of the Carpenter, others will be mini field trips. In this way, this program is truly a community effort.
Your Support Matters
Our whole team is counting on your prayers as this program gets underway. During the program, we have a lot of fun in store for the kids. However, there will also be a lot of hard work. For example, we’ll be asking them some tough questions, like:
- What work are you called to do?
- Who do you want to become?
- What steps do you need to take right now?
- What does “career readiness” mean for you?
Each student will have different answers to these questions. Our role as mentors is to support each person as they consider which “pathway to success” makes the most sense in their circumstance. As a result of our support, they will have the confidence they need to make good decisions.
These kids have so much potential. I know for this age group especially, it’s hard to know what path to take if you don’t know what your options are. The best part about this career readiness program is that we have the chance to expand their imaginations.
Mike Linger, Executive Director
We’re grateful to all of our community partners — and you! — for helping to make this program happen!
